Who we are

Everest Shipping (Pty) Ltd (registration number 2019/545513/07, VAT 4070288560) is a customs clearing and freight forwarding agent based in Verulam, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. For the purposes of POPIA we are the “responsible party” for personal information collected through this website and in the course of providing our services. What information we collect

• Contact and identity details you give us through our quote form, by email or by phone — name, company, email address, phone number, and the description of what you want to ship.
• Shipment and customs information needed to provide our services — commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading or air waybills, importer/exporter codes, VAT numbers, and any supporting documents required by SARS or other authorities.
• Technical data collected automatically when you visit this site — IP address, browser type, pages visited and time spent, via standard server logs and any analytics or security tools we run (see “Cookies” below).

Why we collect it and on what basis

• To respond to your enquiry and prepare a quote (your consent and steps taken at your request before entering a contract).
• To perform our services — lodging customs declarations, booking freight, arranging delivery, invoicing (performance of a contract).
• To meet legal obligations — the Customs and Excise Act, tax law, and record-keeping requirements set by SARS (compliance with law).
• To keep this website secure and functioning, and to understand how it is used (our legitimate interests).

We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for direct marketing unless you have asked us to keep you informed.

Who we share it with

Only where necessary to provide the service you have asked for: the South African Revenue Service and other government agencies (customs entries, permits, inspections); shipping lines, airlines, ports, terminals, transporters, warehouses and our overseas agent partners involved in moving your cargo; and our IT, hosting, email and professional service providers, who process data on our instructions. Where information leaves South Africa — for example to an origin agent overseas — it is shared only to the extent needed for the shipment, with parties bound by contract or by comparable data-protection law.

How long we keep it

Customs and shipping records must by law be retained for at least five years from the date of the transaction; we keep them for that period and then securely delete or anonymise them. Enquiries that do not lead to a shipment are kept for no longer than reasonably necessary to respond to you and follow up.

How we protect it

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to secure the personal information we hold — including access controls, secure hosting, encrypted connections to this website, and security monitoring. No system is completely secure, and if we become aware of a breach affecting your information we will notify you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.

Cookies and analytics

This website uses only the cookies necessary for it to work and stay secure, and may use analytics to understand traffic in aggregate. You can control cookies through your browser settings.

Your rights

Under POPIA you may ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, object to processing, or withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at info@everestshipping.co.za. If you are not satisfied with our response you may lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa) at inforegulator.org.za.

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version will always be published on this page with the date it was last updated.
