Project Cargo

Project Cargo Durban — Heavy-Lift, Out-of-Gauge & Abnormal Loads

Mining equipment, generators, transformers and plant machinery through Durban and Richards Bay. Breakbulk shipping, abnormal load permits, heavy haulage and lifting — one plan, one point of contact.

Heavy-lift project cargo on a low-bed trailer leaving Durban port

Oversized, overweight, and out-of-gauge cargo.

Mining equipment. Transformers and generators. Plant machinery, boilers, structural steel. Cargo that won’t fit in a container and needs its own plan — from the vessel booking through to abnormal load permits and the crane on delivery day. That’s project cargo, and it’s a different discipline from moving boxes.

Project cargo services

  • Breakbulk and out-of-gauge sea freight — flat-rack, open-top and platform containers, RoRo, and conventional breakbulk vessels through Durban and Richards Bay
  • Heavy-lift and abnormal load transport — low-bed and multi-axle trailers, escort vehicles, route surveys
  • Abnormal load permits — provincial and national permits arranged and in place before the cargo lands
  • Lifting and rigging — crane hire, lift plans and site coordination at origin and destination
  • Customs clearance for capital equipment — tariff classification, rebate items where they apply, and the SAD 500 entry via SARS EDI. See customs clearance.
  • Mining, energy, construction, manufacturing — the sectors we move the most project cargo for

  • Execute — one point of contact from booking to offloading on site

Common questions about project cargo

Anything that can’t move in a standard container or on a standard truck because of size or weight — typically over 12m long, 2.5m wide, 2.6m high or heavier than a normal container load. If you’re not sure, send us the dimensions and we’ll tell you.
Anything from a few days for a simple provincial permit to several weeks for a national route with escorts and structural checks. We start the permit process as soon as the shipment is confirmed so it isn’t the thing holding up delivery.
Yes — and it’s a good idea. A budget quote on the freight, clearing and delivery before you commit to the purchase means the landed cost is part of your decision, not a surprise after it.
